The Gears Beer Hockey crew is back at it in the Monday 50+ Oldtimers league — and we have a pretty good reason to get to Crystal Fieldhouse early next Monday.
Gears Beer Gets in the Win Column
We opened the Fall 50+ season with a close one against Lukes Lawn, coming up just short, 4–3.
Week two went better.
Gears Beer 4 – Phantom 2
That puts us at 1–1 after two games, with plenty of hockey ahead. Next up is Tucker on Monday, October 5 at 9:15 PM.

All Black Hockey Sticks Trailer Sale — Monday, October 5
Larry from All Black Hockey Sticks is bringing the trailer to Crystal Fieldhouse from 6:15 PM until 8:30 PM Monday night.
That gives you plenty of time to shop for sticks, gloves, tape and other hockey gear before the later Oldtimers games.
ABHS continues to offer some pretty remarkable stick prices:

- 18K Senior — $104.99
- 24K Featherweight — $129
Compare that with what some of the big-brand sticks are costing these days.
I Really Like These ABHS Gloves
Here is one item I can personally recommend.
I have a pair of the ABHS hockey gloves and really like them.
There wasn't much of a break-in period at all. They felt good quickly, and I like the feel I get with them stickhandling and passing.
Yes, I sometimes pass. 🙂
The gloves use a lighter palm material to help them break in quickly, with a double layer across the palm for durability. ABHS lists them at only $59.95.
For beer-league and Oldtimers players who actually have to buy their own equipment, that is a pretty attractive price compared with spending $150 or more on gloves.

One Last Wednesday Drop-In Before the 60+ League Starts
We also have hockey Wednesday.
There is a 4:00 PM drop-in Wednesday at Crystal Fieldhouse — the final Wednesday drop-in before the new 60+ league gets underway.
More importantly, we still need a few players for the Wednesday 60+ league.
We are building six teams, with games at:
- 2:30 PM
- 3:30 PM
- 4:30 PM
We need at least a couple more skaters, and we can comfortably take several more.
If you're around 60, can still skate and have Wednesday afternoons available, this is a great group to join.
The hockey is competitive without forgetting why we're there: get some exercise, compete a little, laugh a lot and get into Skaters Bar early enough that you can still make it home for the NHL game.
